A community group spent some time Tuesday honoring the volunteers, agencies and businesses working to curb bullying in town.

Two local teens and seven groups were acknowledged with “Teen Heroes” awards by the Greater Norwich Anti-Bullying Coalition. Awardees were recognized for their commitment to stop the spread of violence through education, altruism and by serving as role models.

Jennifer Grillo, 15, of Montville and Zachary Barrows, 17, of Norwich, were singled out for their dedication and commitment to the ideals of the “Bully-Busters” group.

“These two kids went above and beyond,” program coordinator Debbie Kievits said. “They know how important is to speak up if they see something wrong.”
